Below you can find some of the most common questions that people tend to ask. If you have a question that is not answered below, we would be pleased to hear from you. You can use the Contact Us page to get in touch.

Why are neuropsychological assessments important and useful?

Neuropsychological assessments can provide or contribute to clinical decisions about:
Diagnosis and prognosis
Rehabilitation planning, including recommendations for other types of services, e.g. Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech and Language Therapy, or Psychological Treatment.
Ability to return to play after a sports-injury
Ability to return work or school and the relevant accommodations
Ability to function independently
Tracking of changes in cognitive abilities over time to determine response to medication or disease progression

How much do neuropsychological assessments cost?

The cost depends on the type of assessment. Some assessments have a fixed fee, whereas others are charged by the hour. Please contact PCN for further information. Neuropsychological assessments typically involve a clinical interview and testing, as well as a feedback session of the results. The neuropsychologist will also spend time reviewing the client’s relevant medical documentation, seeking collateral information (where appropriate), scoring the test results, and writing the report. As such, assessments charged at an hourly rate will also involve charging for time spent during these activities, as well as the face-to-face sessions.

Are neuropsychological assessments covered by MSP?

Psychologists’ services are not covered by MSP. Individuals with extended health benefit plans (e.g., Pacific Blue Cross) may have some or all of the assessment covered, depending on their provider. Clients are encouraged to contact their extended health provider for more information.

What should I expect on the day of the assessment?

Neuropsychological assessments typically involve a clinical interview, a review of any available or relevant medical records, and a testing session, which can last anywhere from a couple of hours to two days. The testing works best when our clients have a good night’s sleep the night before and are rested. Please also bring reading glasses if you use them. If you take medications, please continue taking them normally, as you usually do.
