Concussions/mtbi

  • Concussions, also known as Mild Traumatic Brain Injuries (MTBI), can cause a variety of symptoms that can be distressing to experience.
  • Although the majority of concussions resolve completely with days to weeks, some individuals experience persisting symptoms and are prevented from engaging in their normal activities.
  • More recently, a lot of information has been available through the media about concussions, and sometimes it can be challenging to know what is fact and what is not.
  • Neuropsychological assessments following concussion (e.g. sport-related, in the workplace, or anywhere else) can be useful to address concerns regarding post-concussive symptoms. These can include attentional problems, concentration and memory difficulties/forgetfulness, and changes in the speed of processing information, as well as others.
  • Neuropsychological assessments can help with monitoring of cognitive symptoms over time, as well as making recommendations regarding safe returns to play, school or work, as well as rehabilitation needs.
